My name is Cory Huminsky (Berliner) and I began playing softball at age 5 in Orange County, CA. My family later moved to Fort Collins, CO where I lived until I graduated from high school. My pitching coach was Stephanie Klaviter. She played for the University of Minnesota, was a 3-time All-Big Ten selection, and was selected to the Minnesota Softball Hall of Fame. She was the WPSL Championship MVP & Pitcher of the Year, and she played on the WPSL All-Star Team which toured with the USA Olympic Team in 2001.
I was recruited by the University of Pittsburgh's pitching coach, Holly Aprile, for a full D1 athletic scholarship. Coach Aprile was a pitcher for USA Softball for 7 seasons, she is a UMass Hall of Fame inductee, NCAA College World Series All-Tournament Player, and in 2018 she was named the ACC Coach of the Year. Under her guidance, I became the record holder for Pitt Softball's lowest career ERA (2.03) and single season ERA (1.72). I currently rank in the top 5 for Pitt Softball career complete games (62), shutouts (13), innings pitched (632.2), wins (49), & strikeouts (414). My senior year I became the "winningest pitcher" with 49 wins & led the Panthers to the current program's highest single season win percentage at .667 (34-17). I led the Panthers to wins over No.23 Maryland, No. 25 Missouri, and No.17 Georgia Tech, earning Pitt Softball their first-ever wins over nationally ranked teams & for the first time in program history, votes in the USA Today/NFCA Top 25 Poll. I set the single season win & rookie win records my freshman year (16), earned Big East All-Conference, 2-time Big East Pitcher of the Week, 4-time Big East Weekly Honor Roll, 3-time Big East All-Academic Team, was one of 10 Senior Athlete of Distinction Award winners, and was a two year team captain. I was ranked in the Top 100 of all NCAA D1 pitchers for three different categories including ERA (56th, 83rd, 98th), saves (61st), and walks per seven innings (20th & 66th).
Before Pitt, I graduated in 2007 from Rocky Mountain High School located in Fort Collins, Colorado. I dominated my senior year with a record of 18-1 in 127 innings compiling an ERA of 0.165 and strikeouts/walks ratio of 217/7 and my junior year with a record of 17-1, an ERA of 0.22, and 193 strikeouts. I was the 2005-2006 Gatorade Colorado Softball Player of the Year, 2-time Front Range Conference Player of the Year, 2-time All-Colorado Pitcher of the Year, and 3-time All-State/All-Conference/All-League award winner. My senior year I led RMHS to their first and only 5A State Championship title. I played travel ball for the Fort Collins Buckaroos where in my final 3 years I had a record of (95-8) in 605.66 innings compiling an ERA of 0.46 and strikeouts/walks ratio of 660/69. I was a 3-time USSSA All-Star, USSSA All Tournament Player, & USSSA Outstanding Pitcher Award winner. I led the Buckaroos to 9 Colorado State Championship titles, 2 Triple Crown World Series Championship titles, and a USSSA World Series title. We also placed 9th in the 2006 18U ASA Nationals.
After graduating from the University of Pittsburgh, I went on to receive my Master's in Public Health from The Ohio State University. I began giving pitching lessons in 2011 at Mannino's Grand Slam USA in Dublin, OH where I instructed for two years during grad school. I then moved back to Pittsburgh in 2013 and began working as the fastpitch pitching instructor at C-Side Sports Academy in Washington, PA. In 2016, I began working as the pitching coach for the Peters Township High School varsity softball team where I coached for three years before becoming the pitching coach for Washington & Jefferson College softball and the pitching coach for the Lady Devil Dogs travel softball organization, in 2020.
I am a National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Endorsed Pitching Coach and a pitching evaluator for College Sports Evaluation (CSE) - a Triple Crown Sports affiliated company, focusing on helping young athletes nationwide find their college-level fit by providing pitching feedback through virtual and in-person CSE evaluations. I give private 1-on-1 pitching lessons, group lessons, pitching clinics, and I work with travel teams & organizations. I look forward to working with you!
